One of the first questions I get from potential clients is: “Should I use video on my site?”
YES!! In the Fall of 2008 Google added some 70 metrics to their ranking algorithm that all related to video. Meaning, sites that have video are likely to outrank those those don’t … it’s about that simple.
Now, this does not mean you have to run out and buy a bunch of video equipment, hire a production crew and go all out (you can if you want); but the reason video is SO popular is the fact that for the vast majority the video is ‘real’; not touched up, or highly edited for absolute perfection. Even a lot of the bigtime Internet Marketers are using a flip camera in their own home office or a webcam to create a short release of information.
Keep it simple and fun (not stupid and silly) for yourself and your audience, and make sure the video has valuable information. The video isn’t ‘about’ your business, it needs to focus on a particular solution to a problem … and by the way your business can help you with this solution. Understand? Don’t make it marketing hype, if you were’nt in your business and ran across this video would it appeal to you? Keep asking yourself that question.
Some ideas for short videos:
- Interview someone in your field, or have yourself interviewed
- Review a product (one per video only)
- Testimonial of a service or product ( a product testimonial can be combined with a a product review as well)
- Answer frequently asked questions in greater detail
- Introduce a solution
- Tips the support your product or services
Keep the video at around 2-3 minutes in order to maintain the viewers attention. Once you have a video created go over to YouTube.com and create an account, make the account name relate to your business so people will recognize it. Promote your own YouTube channel using your website, social media, blog, etc. But most importantly – post consistently!! You can now take the embedded link from each post and place them on your website … like magic – you now have video on your own site!
But here is the best part, the YouTube postings can potentially show up in the Search Engines as well. Make sure you create a keyword rich title that is also catchy, and your description too. Give me comments on your projects below and I’d love to check them out -
