New Google PageRank to WebRank

October 15, 2009

It appears that Google has decided to remove PageRank from the Google Webmaster Tools. Surprisingly it hasn’t been removed from the Google Toolbar yet. I’m sure this is on it’s way though.

What will they call the new PR?
Many other SEOers in the field have been excited to see that the PR was removed from the SERP. Wait, what is Google going to call the Search Engine Page Rank – (SERP) now? Well, from what I hear (through my sources), that the SERP is now turning into the Search Engine Web Rank – (SEWR). Yep, it looks like SEWER to me too. :)

How does the new “WebRank” work?
Basically,

(and if I’m correct) Google has changed the algorithm to go from using links from anywhere to excepting relevant site links and using those links to determine the site’s worth. If you have relevant INCOMING links, you’re linking to similar sites, and you have a high quality of content – you should fare well in the changing SEO ranking. It looks like the days of SPAM buying links is finally behind us.

What are your thoughts on this and how will do you think it will effect your SEO campaigns for your clients?

this is just more evidence that the industry has moved away from pagerank.. that being said, you’d be surprised how commonly it is still used as a metric.. great post!

Yep, it looks like SEWER to me too. New Google PageRank to WebRank http://ow.ly/ArHx ~ Things that we all miss from SERPS to (SEWR).

Interesting thoughts on WebRank. We have been building quality inbound links to client websites all along. I think where you will see the biggest impact is on sites that have inflated link popularity numbers due to excessive directory links and blog comments. Sites that have links coming from high quality, trusted sites will continue to rank well. This means that companies will have to focus more on creating quality content before they can expect to get any links Google would consider valuable.

This new WebRank is better according to SEO sites but I dont think it is good for big websites with huge traffic like social sites, news sites and others.

Great recap … to answer your question it will have little no affect on my clients rankings because I have made it a priority to meet this requirement from the start. Only bringing in links from relevant sources.

I am interested to see how the results start to adjust though :)

SERP = Search Engine Page Rank? Since when?? The letters aren’t even in order.

Do you bother reading your own articles?

Oops! I meant – SERP – Search Engine RANKING Page. I do most of my articles on my phone and upload from there. Thanks for noticing that error. :)
