Recently I had to fill in for an SEO friend on her meetup group and while being a little stressful and last minute, it was nice. By the time I arrived there were already people waiting to hear about the daily topic. Well since she had a game plan (and wasn’t there), I had to make due with what I had which was some old Twitter slides I made. One person attending raises their hand and asked an SEO question that they were having an issue with and wanted to know my personal experience dealing with it. We discussed my experience, and another person chimed in with their question. I turned off the projector and we all sat and had open discussion. These are some of the points I got out of the SEO meetup.
Often times the benefits are from the people attending, but doing open discussion about SEO teaches everyone about how other approach SEO. You can meet lots of new contacts which helps with your networking. There might be a potential client sitting amongst that room. Look around, shake hands, and have some fun.
Hosting the SEO Meetup
Hosting an SEO Meetup can give you income as people are willing to pay for your room rental fee, pay for refreshments, or even have you hang their banner in the room. Depending on the size of your meetup, it’s a good idea to have guest speakers too. It gets you some fresh speaking types in your group and is a great way to meet industry leaders in your field. When you host an SEO Meetup you also appear to be knowledgeable in SEO so that can help you with helping others and earning respect.
