Local Meetup Groups

You may be looking for marketing help with your new business. How about learning something helpful to get a business started? You would think joining a local group may be a great solution for this. However, lately I have discovered the opposite.

You’re looking to join a new group of like minded individuals that are focused on their goals. Perhaps they want to learn SEO or search engine marketing. It’s exactly what I look forward to when I get signed up for one of those local meet ups.

It’s a nice feeling that someone would want to spend their valuable time to show us how to better ourselves from a business standpoint. That is, if that was the case. Going to these SEO and marketing groups is supposed to be entertaining, educational and sociable. But the past 5 groups I have met up with were all just to pimp out their companies, not really much about educating or socializing. There was entertaining, but every salesperson has a entertaining pitch. Being useful is what these groups should be about. People read into the programs that are less than that. What happened to sharing your time and information for free, just to be helpful? Is it what we have come to expect from meeting up with these groups? Are we just there because we know the routine and we want to take advantage of it too?

These are some of my personal experiences with local group meetings. What are yours?
