SEO Questions and Answers Worth Stealing

After reading a fun seo post by Tad Chef over at http://seooptimise.com

Some of the Q&As might sound funny, especially the original tweets they’re based on. We had a lot of fun while collecting the questions and answers.

1. What does SEO stand for?
Search Engine Optimization

2. What is SEO?
For dummys definition is “It’s the thing that gets you on the first page of Google”.

3. My son has a friend that can do seo for me. Why should I hire you?
Simple. Tell about your strength. Hardworking, trustworthy and capable to learn new things.:) Answer by @OutsourcingServ

4. Why aren’t we #1 or on page 1 at Google?
Were you supposed to be? How long have you waited? For what keywords were you looking to appear? Do you have a friend that works at Google?

5. Why am I #1 on search engines all the time but when my wife searches for me she can’t find me?
Is she looking for you? You have local search on, or it could be off. Ask her where your keys are, she might not be able to find them either.

6. When will we see results?
Could take up to 6 weeks. Get yourself a twitter account until then. That usually shows up before the site does.

7. Can we rank for iPhones?
Do you sell iPhones? Are you a representative of Apple? Do you sell iPhones globally or just nation-wide? Do you want to spend 50k+$ on SEO monthly? Then maybe yes. Question by @rhyswynne – Answer by @rhyswynne *I left this one the same. It was perfect the way it was.

8. Can we rank for everything (huge list of keywords)?
I will just say no. Try to go after 12 niche keywords and build from there. See what you can master first.

9. How much does SEO cost?
It costs as much as it costs. Don’t be afraid to spend. I will charge you between $500 – $10000 a month depending on what’s involved and how many man hours are needed to accomplish your goals. Question by @seowolf Answer by @SeoWebHelp

10. Why is SEO so expensive?
If it’s quality seo, then it brings you leads and new customers. It’s up to you to turn the leads into sales. Plus, it can be labor extensive.

11. How long does it take to get indexed by Google?
30 seconds to 6 weeks. Without SEO it might even take 1 year. These are estimates as I don’t know the algorithm they have in place for indexing.

12. How to submit my new site to Google/Bing/Yahoo etc.?
Get sites to link to you and make an XML sitemap of your site hierarchy.

13. How do I submit to 1000 search engines?
Why would you want to. If you haven’t heard of those other search engines, chances are neither have we so we couldn’t find them to search for you in the first place. Use Google, Bing, Yahoo and Ask in the US. Mostly Google in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.

14. Do I need an XML sitemap?
I recommend them, but every site is different.

15. Do I need meta tags for SEO?
No, the meta description tag is good for search users though who might decide whther they click on yours based on the description you offer.
