SEO for your new business

Some SEO tips to help get you started with taking on the world of Search Engine Optimization.

SEO tips

Keywords

I’m a believer in having a keyword or two in my domain name. You don’t have to go this direction, but I feel it’s still useful. Focusing on about 3-6 keywords on your index page is generally a smart idea. Too many and your site starts looking like you can’t write. Bad editorials will keep your visitors from coming back or wanting to read more on your site or blog. Using keywords in the meta tags is great for Yahoo spiders and some other search engines. Googlebot doesn’t read them though.

Coding

Making sure your new site is well coded will help the search engine crawlers. Sometimes blogs start out well coded but then you add in about 20 widgets and the code is all over the place. Using CSS along with div tags will also help the spiders crawl your site. Keep your site tableless if you can.

Link Building

Linking from one internal page in your site to another internal page is called Interlinking. Building up some links from other sites is a benefit to your new site. Getting links from PR4 and higher sites is what search engines look for. The more positive a site’s link juice the better you will rank (generally speaking).

Social Marketing

Get yourself signed up with a Twitter account. That link goes to mine. You can add me as a friend. Since you’re a business you might want to get LinkedIn. Great place to get your name out to other business owners that may benefit from your services or products.

I may add new parts to this post. If you have questions, throw them in the comments and I may add the answers here.

Good luck!

Ty for the comment annarogers, I’m sure it will help our readers. Only thing I would disagree with is Alexa ranking.

As you all may know – I have low ratings on all those because I just started this blog at the end of Jan 09. However, I know what I’m talking about. It is wise to do your research if you are going to spend money on any SEO (software or company).

Good content. Just wanted to add some points here that may be helpful for those looking out for professional SEO services. There are tons of SEO companies offering different SEO packages and solutions at highly competitive rates. However, when looking our for these services, its important to not only look at the affordability factor but also what is unique about their SEO service and what differentiates them from other companies.

While choosing an SEO company its equally important to analyze the SEO company’s website in terms of their Rankings, Yahoo links, Google index, Alexa ranking and similar such factors which indicates the company’s expertise in the field of SEO. So make sure you are doing enough research and smart work before investing your advertising spend.
