Cover Common Misspellings (and mispellings)

This could come under the category of “keyword coverage” for products.

In a nutshell this will help you with Adwords, Meta tags and your PPC campaigns.

Try to have product and vendor descriptions with different spellings. (make sure you have permission to use any trademark names in your ads)

For example: in an online store I have, there is a vendor called “Bohemiarts“, which is “Bohemia” and “Arts” merged together. I accidentally put it in originally as “BohemiaArts”, since unconsciously that’s what I thought it should be.

google misspelled

So Google is finding the main pages for searches that have “BohemiaArts“. A few days ago I went through and made changes, including fixing that name. In the product descriptions I have 2 places where I have the vendor name mentioned. I changed the first instance, and after thinking about it I kept the second “wrong” spelling as-is.

This way they’ll be seen for both spellings. Only a careful reader would see that it’s inconsistent. And I think inconsistency is a fair price to pay for getting found more often!

I’ve seen misspellings that get more searches that the “proper” spelling.
And since nearly everyone else tries to use the proper spelling, you get a lot less competition for those words.

I like to add in a “tags” line in the description, that lets me represent alternate spellings.
For example, for the category page, for this vendor I have a “tags” line that includes “bohemiart”, “bohemiaart”, among others.

The “tags” line lets me put in such things, separately, without them looking strange (as they would in the regular description).

Due to this kind of coverage the site now shows at the top for a lot of these variations.
